DSO at The Ford House
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and Edsel & Eleanor Ford House (Ford House) announced the DSO’s return to Ford House for the popular summer concert series Detroit Symphony @ Ford House on Fri., July 8 and Sat., July 9 at 8:30 p.m. Conductor Tito Muñoz will join the DSO both evenings with other guest artists to be announced. These concerts are sponsored by PVS Chemicals, Ford Motor Company Fund, Talmer Bank and Henry Ford Health System.
A continuing collaborative partnership between the DSO and Ford House, the concerts will include popular musical favorites performed on the grounds of the Ford House on the Lake St. Clair shoreline, with the backdrop of the magnificent estate literally setting the stage. Concerts will be followed at approximately 10 p.m. by a thrilling fireworks finale.
he concerts continue Ford House’s emphasis on engaging audiences and opening the estate in new ways. “It was a thrill to see so many people enthusiastically embrace the partnering of history and music,” said Ford House President Kathleen Mullins. “The images of thousands gathered lakeside, listening to the fantastic music, relaxing while enjoying views of the lake was simply perfection. We look forward to welcoming guests back for another spectacular weekend.”
“Last summer the atmosphere throughout the House and grounds during our concerts was magical. We were thrilled that our first foray into this summer offering brought a tremendous response of 5,000 guests including families and children. We look forward to once again engaging our community by bringing the DSO’s great music to one of the most beautiful and historic settings Michigan has to offer,” said Anne Parsons, DSO President and CEO.
The grounds of Ford House will open at 6 p.m. to allow attendees the opportunity to explore the gardens, stroll along the lake and Bird Island – a small peninsula on the premises that is a well-known stopping place for migratory birds and enjoy pre-concert music performed by area students. Additionally, there will be activities for families and concessions.
Lauded by the Cincinnati Enquirer for his “natural facility and convincing musicianship on the podium,” Tito Muñoz is increasingly recognized as one of the most gifted conductors of his generation. Recently appointed Music Director of the Opéra national de Lorraine and the Orchestre symphonique et lyrique de Nancy, he previously served a three year tenure as Assistant Conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra, appointed by Franz Welser-Möst in April 2007, and a League of American Orchestras Conducting Fellow. Prior to that, he served as Assistant Conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra.
