About The Grosse Pointes

For those of you who love the gentleness of a cool summer breeze while listening to the faint sounds of Great Lakes freighters rumbling past, Grosse Pointe is the place for you. Grosse Pointe is comprised of five separately governed communities, which include Grosse Pointe Park, Grosse Pointe City, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Woods and Grosse Pointe Shores. Each community has its own beautiful lakefront park with swimming and wading pools, marinas and picnic areas.

Grosse Pointe has also been designated as “Tree City USA” creating sidewalk friendly neighborhoods lined with trees allowing for peaceful walks and runs in these quaint small towns. The attractive business districts offer wonderful retail shopping with superior service. They also have tennis, paddle tennis and basketball courts, skating rinks and playgrounds.

Fine and performing arts occur all year long and come in all styles. You can find entertainment on the Plaza in the Village, evening concerts in lakefront venues, in the city parks and at local restaurants. Grosse Pointe offers art fairs and gallery exhibits featuring local and international artists. The Grosse Pointe Theatre performs at the Fries Auditorium and the Historical Society explores the area’s rich history, linking current residents with their past. Grosse Pointe Shores is the home to the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, a historic estate formerly owned by the son of Henry Ford, the famous auto baron family. The estate sits on 87 acres on Lake St. Clair and offers educational programs, community concerts, tours, festivals and nature programs.

Grosse Pointe is a family oriented community and is rich with personality and neighborliness. Take a stroll or ride your bike to shop on The Hill, Downtown Village of Grosse Pointe, and the shops in the Park or on Mack Avenue. Establishments include national stores, boutiques and family owned shops. Grosse Pointe also offers a wide variety of restaurants presenting delicious global cuisines. Young and old alike are always able to find something to do for entertainment, including attending fairs and festivals, Farmer’s Market in Grosse Pointe Park, bird walks at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House and any activity involving beautiful Lake St. Clair.
