About North Bay District

The scenic and diverse North Bay district stretches from Chesterfield Township along the northeast shore of Anchor Bay to the azure waters of beautiful Algonac, gateway to the St. Clair River.  Traveling north along Jefferson through Chesterfield Township, be sure to visit one of the finest public access points on Lake St. Clair:  Brandenburg Park, complete with its fishing pier, boat launch, picnic areas, hiking and biking trails.  Proceeding further north, you will soon arrive at the quaint town of New Baltimore, an active and bustling hub with a newly expanded park on the water (at the foot of Washington Street, which is lined with restaurants and shops).  New Baltimore’s park has a fishing pier, a beach, playscape, sheltered and open picnic areas and much more.

Further east in the North Bay District, visitors pass the Tin Fish Resort in Fair Haven, which is definitely worth a stop—either by car or by boat.  This scenic location offers fine and casual dining, has a tiki bar, boat wells, and seating either indoors or on an expansive outdoor deck.  Additional lakeside dining is available at a number of spots that dot the shoreline along Dixie Highway, be sure to check them out.

As you leave Fair Haven, you may want to look for an interesting road, Anchor Bay Drive, which leads to the North Channel and several businesses at its terminus, including Decker’s Landing with a marina and restaurant.  Along Dixie Highway, before you reach Algonac, you’ll see St. John’s Marsh, a huge protected wetland area that teams with fish and birds.

Lively Algonac is where the St. Clair River flows by, and where visitors can get car ferry service to Harsens Island, to Canada and to Russell Island.  Algonac itself is a lovely mix of retail shops, restaurants, historic homes and more.  Here, recreational opportunities, such as ship watching and fishing, abound.
