About Miller's Custom Boat Top Inc.
Boater owners are typically not shy about sharing ideas and information on how and where they choose to have work done on their vessels.  And when it comes to boat canvas and enclosures, the name “Miller’s” is one of the most frequently mentioned and respected in Michigan.
With his experience and track record, that is not surprising.  Dennis E. Miller, president of Miller’s Custom Boat Top Inc., has called his present location at Belle Maer Harbor home since the service building was built in 1984.   His company was actually founded in 1932 by his Grandfather.  Dennis worked with his dad, Edward J. Miller, in the family business for three seasons until he decided to test the business acumen he acquired in college in an accounting job.  But in the final analysis, he wanted to work outdoor (as well as be on his own), so he came back.
Today, Dennis’ company custom designs, crafts and installs canvas and enclosures on as many as 350 boats—most 35 to 60 feet (not including repairs and smaller jobs).  Despite a challenging local economy, Dennis and his staff have stayed as busy as ever.
“We have our own niche,” he explains, “We don’t work with hard acrylic panels, but rather we work with polycarbonate windows, a semi-rigid window material, and the end result looks just like glass. Our customer is probably more discriminating when it comes to quality and craftsmanship, and we enjoy a good reputation.”
Dennis Miller’s crew consists of his sister-in-law, Terri Bierlein, Terri’s son, Jesse Bierlein and Niko Eklund.
While the summer season is typically their busiest, they manage their workflow carefully and pride themselves on offering exceptional quality and value any time of year.
